Over 600,000 patients of the DuPage Medical Group are being notified that a cyber attack in July may have compromised their personal information. Investigations have determined that phone and computer outages lasting nearly a week in mid-July was caused by unauthorized access to the medical group’s network.
After working with cyber-forensic specialists, DuPage Medical believes that files containing patient information may have been compromised. The files are believed to include patient names, addresses, birthdates, treatment dates, and other medical information. So far, officials believe no patient data has been misused, but they are encouraging those potentially affected to remain vigilante.
The medical group has since responded to the incident by implementing additional cyber security measures and reviewing their security policies.
