Last Friday, the Kemptville District Hospital (KDH) reopened the doors to their emergency department following a “cyber incident” from earlier in the week. Ongoing IT issues have kept the hospital in “Code Grey,” meaning they are without essential services but thanks to support from local hospital partners, KDH was able to resume their emergency care.

On Wednesday evening, local authorities as well as a cyber unit from the OPP were on-site to assess the situation. An OPP spokesperson stated they were there to determine whether the incident was malicious attack but declined to provide further details. By Thursday morning KPH made a public statement announcing that a “cyber incident forced the hospital to take its IT environment offline,” forcing them to close their doors to the public.

While the public waits for additional details on the cause of the incident and extent of the damages, KDH will at least be able to resume emergency care. However, it is not yet clear if other services have resumed or continue to remain paused.
