After initially seeing their milk plants shut down by a ransomware attack, Schreiber Foods says its plants and distribution centres are now back online. The attack which happened over the weekend, initially disrupted operations knocking out their “critical systems.”

For Schreiber, production and distribution are highly reliant on their digital systems making the impact of the incident significant. As the largest milk processor in Wisconsin, this cyber attack is sure to affect the dairy supply chain across the US. It is one of many recent attacks targeting national agricultural organizations.

Schreiber’s Director of Communications Andrew Tobisch told local reporters, “We have a specialized response team that immediately jumped into action and began working to resolve the matter.”

There is little detail on how the attack occurred, but early reports suggest no financial data or customer PII was exposed. It appears that the threat actors were looking for a large payoff as local sources suggested a $2.5 million dollar ransom was requested.
