UPDATE:

After a successful ransomware attack struck P.E.I. government servers earlier this year, ongoing investigations are slowly revealing the total costs of the breach.

P.E.I.’s Minister of Finance, Darlene Compton, has announced that data breach costs from the attack will total $909,387. Upgrades to existing hardware and providing two years of free credit monitoring to those affected by the breach are said to be the two areas of focus for these costs.

While the government has not disclosed the number of taxpayers affected by the breach, 200 GB of data is said to have been exfiltrated by the group of hackers. The P.E.I. government is continuing to work RCMP and updating the privacy commissioner until more details can be provided upon the conclusion of the investigation.
