The staffing agency Career Group, recently began sending out notification letters to customers that were affected in a data breach that the company claims occurred around late June to early July. Career Group has informed law enforcement of the incident and stated over 49,000 people are believed to have been affected by the breach.

Many are speculating that the company has paid an undisclosed ransom to their threat actors as a letter sent to the Maine Attorney General’s Office said they have “received assurances from the unauthorized party that the data removed from (their) environment was permanently deleted and not further disseminated.” Career Group also mentioned that they’ve taken necessary precautions to safeguard their data from further incidents after working with third party cyber security professionals to investigate the unauthorized network access. The company is assuring individuals that they are “not aware of any reports of identity theft or fraud arising out of the incident,” but are still advising those affected to remain vigilante and make use of complimentary credit monitoring services to ensure their data safety.
