UPDATE: As of February 10, the Confederation College IT team was continuing to work on the restoration of the college’s IT services. Further updates have yet to be provided whether their system has been fully restored.
A recent malware attack left Confederation College without many IT services including email and is encouraging anyone with a school email address to reset their passwords. The college’s internal IT department is now working with a third party cyber security expert to investigate a forensic investigation to fully determine whether or not any personal data was compromised and taken from their servers.
The college was able to quickly respond to the attack once they received notification. At this time, they believe there is no evidence of any personal data being taken from their servers but they will further notify and update students and anyone else affected should more information come about.
In the meantime, interruptions in email and other services are to be expected over the next few weeks once the investigation is done and their servers are once again secured. The college is recommending no one click on email links and warning students of email scams to ensure proper security precautions are taken during this time. They have also told email users to change passwords on other platforms if the same password was reused for other logins.
