Thousands of Customers Impacted By Marketron Ransomware Attack

Over 6,000 customers of Marketron, a digital marketing and media organization, have been impacted by a recent cyber attack. The marketing company’s client list includes many radio stations who use their services for broadcast and revenue management.

While much of the details are vague and have not been disclosed, Marketron CEO Jim Howard says the company has made investments to protect their information. Marketron did disclose that BlackMatter, a Russian based cyber criminal organization had contacted the marketing company with a ransom demand. BlackMatter is said to be the new manifestation of the ransomware group DarkSide.

The aftermath of the attack has left Marketron with many of their services down including several customers being taken offline as a precautionary measure while authorities have been called in to investigate.
