A cyber attack has left the fast food and gaming chain Dotty’s, with severely impacted operations and exposed customer data. The company stated that by infecting their systems with malware, threat actors were able to infiltrate the network and copy highly sensitive data.

While the number of people affected by the breach has yet to be released, the Dotty’s claims to have contacted potential victims urging them to remain vigilante for any signs of fraud and identity theft. Compromised data is assumed to include customer names, dates of birth, social security numbers, driver’s license numbers, passport numbers, financial account/routing numbers, medical information and more.

In the wrong hands, this type of sensitive information can be disastrous as it would be highly attractive for cyber criminals to sell on the Dark Web, to commit identity theft, or to carry out further cyber attacks on individuals.

Dotty’s representatives have stated they “took immediate steps to secure its systems,” and while full details of the incident have yet to be released, a full investigation is underway to determine “full nature and scope of the incident.”
