In what some are labeling as the worst social media platform hack to-date, several high-profile twitter accounts were targeted in a highly sophisticated and coordinated hack. The accounts belonging to some of the world’s richest and most influential people, including celebrities, politicians, and companies, were targeted in the large scale Bitcoin scam.
Over 142 Million Affected in MGM Resorts Data Breach
Earlier this year, news broke of a data breach that was originally thought to have affected 10.6 million guests of the MGM Resorts as hackers began to offer data as a free download. According to a new ad listed on the Dark Web, the actual number of guests affected is nearly 14 times higher than the original number. According to the listing reported by ZD Net, data from 142,479,937 guests can be purchased for the equivalent of about $3,000.

Although the company had reacted well, the discovery was too late as over 1 million students and rejected membership applicants had their personally identifiable information compromised.
329,000 Affected By CPA Canada Phishing Attack
After falling victim to a successful phishing attack in April, CPA Canada has disclosed that personal information of their members and users of their website has been compromised. After concluding the initial investigation, the organization has determined that following the attack unauthorized third parties gained access to the website and compromised personal information of over 329,000 members. Those affected by the breach were primarily CPA Canada magazine subscribers and website users.
NTPC Customers Facing “Financial Hardships” After Ransomware Attack
Investigations show that hackers successfully targeted the utilities corporation’s website and its IT systems in late April. After a six-week restoral process, the company is expecting “financial hardships” for their customers as they are left to figure out “reasonable payment plans” now that customers are left with a bill showing two months of services due. Customers are hoping this is the only suffering they will incur as NTPC has stated no personal or private information was accessed or compromised during the ransomware attack.
Approximately 28,000 GoDaddy Users Affected by Data Breach
Early this week, details of a recently discovered data breach were disclosed by one of the world’s largest domain registrar and web hosting companies, GoDaddy. This is the second reported incident this year, as a successful spear-phishing attack was reported in late March.
